Dancing Feet, Porto 2006-2016
Between 2006 and 2016, digital photography underwent significant transformations in terms of creation, acceptance, and exhibition. High-quality digital cameras became accessible, allowing for night photography with a quality close to studio standards. In 2007, Facebook was launched in Portugal, quickly becoming the main space for sharing photos. Images were posted to relive the previous night, usually on the account associated with the party. The concept of reposting across platforms didn’t exist yet, linking this relationship with the medium to the printed photo album.
Over these 10 years, I took many photographs.
In 2016, Instagram launched Stories, digital influencers became established in the market and selfies gained prominence on social media, reflecting the growing culture of self-image. Snapchat popularized ephemeral posts, offering an alternative to digital permanence. “Post-truth” was chosen as the word of the year by the Oxford Dictionary, highlighting this new era where emotions and personal beliefs prevailed over objective facts.
