Light Beam: projected sculpture, exposed cinema
I was responsible for designing a video projection solution and adaptation of two films to the exhibition space while working directly with the artist.
Gaëlle Rouard, a recognized auteur in European experimental cinema, specializes in chemical processing of film and live multi-projection. At the Centro de Arte Oliva, she transformed her film Darkness, Darkness, Burning Bright (2022) into an installation, introducing a new approach. Filmed, processed, and edited over three years, the film also required nine months for its soundtrack. The film unfolds in two parts, Prelude and Oraison, presenting a nocturnal and crepuscular landscape with iridescent lights emanating from animals and vegetation. Each shot is carefully composed, combining still and moving images, resulting in a succession of tableaux vivants that confer an alien luminosity to the natural world.
